Enhancing Korean Studies at the University of Bologna: bridging Humanities and Social Sciences

The project aims to enhance the studies on Korea at the University of Bologna and in particular at the Department of Arts, through the organization of a series of innovative teaching activities and research activities. The project applies an inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach with the aim of combining Humanities (arts and artistic and cultural production) and social sciences (political science, international relations, sociology). The aim of this project is also the strengthening of relations between UNIBO - in particular the Department of Arts - and Korea and the creation of a European network of Korean studies.

The specific objectives are:

  1. Development of new teaching activities in Korean studies for the students of the Department and the creation of dedicated scholarships;
  2. Strengthening the research skills of students and researchers in Korean studies;
  3. Creation of a long-lasting transnational collaboration platform on Korean studies in Europe and between Italy and Korea.


In order to achieve these objectives, the project implements various activities, such as: cycles of seminars with experts invited from Italy and abroad; intensive laboratories and workshops for students with invited experts from abroad; scholarships and research grants for students; publication of books in English and Italian for the dissemination of research results and as teaching support; organization of events and artistic performances related to Korea; organization of international conferences on Korean studies
